The First Tee of Louisville had a terrific start to the 2018 season by hosting the Spring Kickoff! on April 12th, at Shawnee Golf Course’s First Tee of Louisville facility.
This very special evening featured a check presentation for $25,000 to The First Tee of Louisville by the Kirchdorfer Family. Jimmy Kirchdorfer and several members of his family presented the check to Mayor Greg Fischer who accepted on behalf of The First Tee of Louisville. We are honored to be recipients of the Kirchdorfer’s generosity and will strive to continue the tradition of excellence that Jimmy and his Dad have supported through the years.
We also renamed The First Tee Facility in honor of Ed Perry, long time president of The First Tee of Louisville, now retired. The facility will now carry the name “The Edwin H. Perry Short Game Practice Facility”. Ed was the driving force behind the creation of The First Tee of Louisville and was the leader of the organization for 12 years. He oversaw the growth of the organization to bring us to where we are today. We are most grateful for his contributions through the years.
The event was covered and promoted by Wave 3 TV and Hip Hop Radio Station WGZB-FM 96.5.
Dawne Gee was live that evening and interviewed The First Tee of Louisville Executive Director D’Shawn Johnson, Board of Directors member Jimmy Kirchdorfer, and participant Nia Campbell for Wave3.
Radio 95.5 On Air Personality Big Homie broadcast from the event for 2 hours and spent time with the kids sharing positive messages with them.
We were fortunate that other youth providers joined us and shared their summer activities with the families that attended. The Shawnee Learning Center, the Portland Community Center, The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Louisville, The Louisville Urban League were all present and connected with the kids and their families.
Attendees were treated to hot dogs and chips and watched a delightful presentation by Golf trick shot artist Buddy Demling before the kids moved off to experience golf at the various activities that we set up.
We are grateful to our First Tee of Louisville volunteers and especially the members of the U of L Women’s golf for volunteering and making the event run so smoothly and special thanks to the Shawnee Golf Couse maintenance crew for getting the Short Game Practice Facility in great shape for the event despite all the rain.
